A recent project within the railway sector has seen the process of VacuBond® optical bonding tested, from which the results have proved the solution complies with industry standards. The project involved VacuBond® optical bonding of a 10.4” TFT display to the rear of a milled bezel, featuring a glued touch screen on its front side.
Testing & Certification
The module was tested and successfully passed the vibration and shock test on the customer premises to comply with the DIN EN 61373 Category 1, Class B standard and IEC 60571 standard. The IEC 60571 approves the module for use on electronic equipment used on any rolling stock.
Optical Bonding
VacuBond® optical bonding uses a high quality optical gel to connect the display and touchscreen, creating a robust TFT display. The gel used to bond the components helps to counteract vibration resonances and dissipate any shock energy to the sides.
Providing improved optical quality, means the gel layer doesn’t break the incident light on impact as much compared to that of a product with an air gap that hasn’t been optically bonded. As well making the solution more resilient the display also benefits from better readability and higher contrast without the need for increased power consumption.
Display Technology Ltd has the ability to optically bond touch screens or protective glasses on all displays up to the screen size 32”. VacuBond® optical bonding is ideal for use in explosion proof areas, where VacuBond® can be used to close the air gap and greatly reduce the risk of sparks.
